Measuring

What are you doing Peggy Sue?  Asks Little Owen

I'm measuring.  Peggy Sue tells him.

Measuring what?  Little Owen asks.

My books of course!  She replies.

They are about this high.

She demonstrates with her hands.

And this wide.  But the tape measure keeps getting all tangled up!

I need to work out how big against my wall...

Do I want it high? She ponders as she looks at the wall.

I don't think so.  Little Owen tells her.

Little Owen helps her measure the wall...

Although she still seems to be in a bit of a ponder about just how tall she wants it.

He tells her she should have it about 25cm tall and about 20 cm wide...that way she can display some of her ornaments or toys on top of it.

They work out the measurements together and later on Peggy

Looking at the state of her bedroom, I think she will have to do some tidying before her birthday party tomorrow as well!

Peggy Sue writes a letter.

It was suggested to Peggy Sue that she write to Reuben with the measurements for a bookcase and that he might be able to help her as he has access to tools and wood.  She was pleased to see that her desk had been moved into her room for that purpose as she wanted to practice her typewriting skills.

Hmmm...what shall I write?  She thinks to herself.

Fortunately Little Owen is on hand to help and advise her...

You start the letter 'Dear Reuben'.  He tells her.

Peggy Sue has only recently been learning to type so she is quite slow and careful.

Dear Reuben,

Please would you be able to help me build a bookcase?  Or maybe you are cleverer enough to build one yourself.  My biggest book is 8.5 cm tall by 7 cm and my smallest book is 5.5 cm tall by 4.5 cm.  I was thinking about three shelves, perhaps with a smaller shelf for the littler books on top and a larger shelf for the taller ones at the bottom...

Do you think that makes sense Owen?  She asks.

He hopes it does.  But explains to her that it doesn't really matter as long as the shelves are big enough for the largest books she has.

She continues her letter to Reuben..

I am sad you couldn't come to my 'real birthday party' this year, but perhaps you could attend the virtual one.  Mummy said that your Mummy is very very busy at the moment, so that is okay if you can't.  I am sure we can meet up again sometime and maybe I could save you a piece of cake.

Little Owen doesn't like to let her know that the cake won't keep...  but he is sure they could make another cake for another time.

Peggy Sue continues to work away at her letter to get it ready to send off on Monday morning.

Teddy Bears Picnic

I thought it might be fun to introduce the Teddy Bears that live here at Rose Cottage.  I have had teddy bears since I was a baby and still have my childhood panda, Peter, although he is a little worse for wear!  On Saturday's I am going to post some teddy bear pictures and write a little about them.

These are some of the small teddies that live here.  These keep us company in the dining room and live in this little 'cubby hole' in the dresser/wall unit.

Come on guys, face the front!

There that is better.

These four are the newest teddies and they have been here for only the last year I guess.

From left to right: Knitty, Honey, Valentine and Fuzz.  The are made by a Sasha friend, Lesley Shaw.

'Puzzle' is a Bramber Bear and came to me second hand via Evilbay.  He has been here about three years now I think.

Bobby the puppy is also a 'Bramber Bear' and has been here about four years.

Little Jay is also a Bramber Bear and arrived in 2013.

A little Hermann bear, currently with no name.

Lucille is another Bramber bear, and she just loves the outdoors.  She was given to me by a friend at the 2013 Sasha Festival I went to in the USA

Another little 'no name' bear.

Both these two above have been here a number of years.

Rupert was a Wedding Anniversary present and was given to me by my husband in 2009.  He is a 'Vintage Magpie' creation and was made by a lady whose blog I used to follow.

This lovely teddy was my Nan's and is simply known as 'Nan's Ted'  He is very special.  I have no idea how old he is, or what make, but I believe he has mohair (?) fur and wood wool stuffing.

I have a big fondness for pandas, probably as my first ever teddy was one, and so have quite a few.

This is 'Mussel' and he was adopted at the Hatfield Craft Fair in 2002.

If anyone else wants to join in sharing their Teddy Bears, then let me know and I will see if I can work out how to set up one of those 'linky doo dah' things.

Busy

Peggy Sue has been busy in her room...

It amuses her that the vacuum cleaner is called 'Henry'

A little later, some moving round of furniture, it is time for a break...or at least that is what Peggy Sue claims.  I think she got distracted!

She reads to Little Owen, but is thinking about just where she is going to put her books.  She thinks she needs a bookcase, and I quite agree!

Bedroom!

Peggy Sue has been in the garden this morning, it was a bright morning and she felt like some fresh air, but it was pretty damp outside so she didn't wander far.

'Come in Peggy Sue'  She hears Little Owen calling to her and she goes inside.

He has a surprise for her...

I've got my bedroom back Little Owen!  Peggy Sue tells her faithful companion.

I will have to reorganise it again... but that should be fun as I rediscover all my treasures.

Now this can go over here...

Peggy Sue places the family portrait on her bedside table for now.

She rummages around in the trunk.

Now what do we have in here?

This sorting out things is exhausting work!  She tells Little Owen.

It's not so bad, he tells her.  Just do a little at a time.

Autumn Leaves Come Tumbling Down

The leaves from our Maple tree are falling and it is an almost daily task to rake them up and put them in the compost.

Peggy Sue says:  I'm helping, honestly I am....

I think she enjoys playing with the leaves...

The leaves make a soft, if somewhat damp bed!

But later on...she looks at what appears to be a daunting task.

Some time later...

the task is completed!
